Alf is the architect behind Avangard Capital’s AI-based investment system, A.L.F.R.E.D., leveraging decades of market data to deliver disciplined strategies and uncorrelated alpha. With 40+ years in data science and quantitative finance, he bridges pioneering research with market reality, transforming the execution of intelligent investing for real-world results.

Beyond Avangard, Alf currently serves as CTO of SensOre, where his expertise in machine learning advances predictive analytics for mineral exploration. Earlier, at CRA/Rio Tinto, he pioneered large-scale data visualisation and risk analytics. His career is defined by a commitment to scientific rigor, innovation, and precision setting the standard at Avangard.

Jules Aknin — COO and Founding Director

Jules oversees Avangard’s governance, compliance, and investor relations, ensuring the fund operates to the highest professional standards in partnership. With over a decade of experience leading business operations and client-focused ventures in diverse sectors, he is dedicated to transparency, regulatory excellence, and building trusted relationships with investors. Jules’s commitment to operational integrity and client outcomes is central to Avangard’s culture of accountability and success.

Our Chief Technical Officer – Research and Future Innovations, has a background in data science, machine learning, and scientific research. Prior to Avangard, he worked with the CIO for several years on the application of machine learning to large-scale scientific datasets. He holds a PhD from the University of New South Wales and was a recipient of the University Medal.


Our Data Administrator oversees the management and quality assurance of Avangard’s vast financial databases. With over 24 years of experience in large-scale data architecture and market modelling, he ensures data integrity across global systems. He maintains and executes the machine learning infrastructure that powers the Fund’s proprietary models. His precision in data validation underpins the accuracy of Avangard’s predictive analytics and portfolio optimisations.
